Alfreddie "Suge" Shanks, born on December 5, 1951, in the warm embrace of Georgia, departed this life peacefully at Doctor's Hospital in Augusta, Georgia, on September 3, 2026. He was a cherished son of the late Arthur and Mattie Shanks.
Alfreddie leaves behind his two children, Tara Vaughns-Anderson and her husband Nathaniel, as well as Travis Vaughns. His legacy is further carried by his six grandchildren: Da' Che Brown, Keiosha Vaughns, Aalajah Wilson, Jatavia Vaughns, Jatoria Vaughns, and Ahmahj Vaughns, along with three great-grandchildren.
He is also survived by his devoted sisters, Dorothy Styles and JoAnn Shanks; nieces, nephews, extended family, and many friends who will forever treasure the memories they shared with him. Alfreddie's life was enriched by the special friendships of Althea Smith "The flower lady" and Thomas Williams, who helped and encouraged him.
Educated in the Columbia School System, Alfreddie dedicated his professional life to the Richmond School System, where he worked diligently as a Custodian for many years. His commitment to his work was matched only by his passion for the game of basketball, which he enjoyed throughout his life.
Alfreddie was predeceased by his brother, Jerome Dixon, whose memory he cherished deeply. As a man of humble beginnings, he found the greatest joy in the company of his family and friends, leaving all who knew him with fond memories and a legacy of kindness.
May Alfreddie's soul find eternal peace, and may his life be remembered as a testament to love, dedication, and the enduring bond of family.
