It is with heartfelt sorrow that we announce the passing of Alonzo Smith, Jr., who left us peacefully on July 27, 2025, in Augusta, Georgia. Born on November 6, 1943, Alonzo lived a life filled with music, passion, and an unwavering spirit that touched the hearts of many.
From a young age, Alonzo found solace in the soulful sounds of blues and gospel, honing his skills and eventually becoming a professional guitar player for numerous bands. His guitar was not merely an instrument; it was an extension of his being, allowing him to express emotions that words could not capture. Alonzo shared his talent generously, bringing joy and inspiration to all who had the privilege of listening to him play. Throughout his musical journey, he was known not just for his remarkable ability but also for his kindness and encouragement to fellow musicians.
As we gather to honor his memory, family and friends will have the opportunity to reflect on the impactful life he led. A visitation will take place on Thursday, August 7, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM at C.A. Reid Sr. Memorial Funeral Home, located at 314-A Laney Walker Blvd Ext., Augusta, GA. On the following day, Friday, August 8, 2025, at 11:00 AM, we will come together at the Everfaithful Missionary Baptist Church, situated at 314 Sand Bar Ferry Rd, Augusta, GA, for a celebration of Alonzo's extraordinary life.
In times of both joy and sorrow, Alonzo's warm spirit and the beautiful melodies he crafted will remain forever etched in our hearts. He leaves behind a legacy that resonates deep within the musical communities he cherished. His contributions as an artist will continue to inspire and move generations to come. Alonzo Smith, Jr. may have departed from this world, but his music and love will eternally echo in our souls, reminding us of the beauty of life, friendship, and the transformative power of music.
