Arthur Wilson

Arthur “Butch” Wilson was born on December 30, 1938, in Jamaica, New York, to the late Clarence and Luella Herbert. He was the oldest of six siblings.

He passed away peacefully in Charlotte, North Carolina, on September 16, 2026, leaving behind a lifetime of memories and a legacy that will continue through the family and loved ones he cherished.

Butch, as everyone knew him, grew up in Jamaica, New York, and was educated in the New York public school system. Arthur was raised by his loving grandparents, Arthur and Mable Wilson. He also spent many summers in Darlington, South Carolina. Butch later moved to Aiken, South Carolina, before relocating to Augusta, Georgia.

Butch was a man who believed in hard work, providing for his family, and doing what needed to be done. He dedicated himself to a demanding trade that required strength, determination, skill, and perseverance.

During his working career, he became known as the “Best Transmission Specialist” in the CSRA. Butch began working in New York as a young man, rebuilding transmissions. After moving South, he began working at AAMCO Transmissions as a certified technician for the local franchise. He later became the owner of the Augusta location.

Being the ambitious man he was, Butch decided to become independent and opened Wilco Transmissions as its sole owner. His final venture was the opening of Budget Transmissions, where he worked diligently until health challenges dictated otherwise.

Butch took great pride in his work, and to those who knew him, it was much more than an occupation. He conducted himself with integrity and was generous to his customers. He served and worked within the community for more than 50 years.

Butch embraced his love for God. In January 1977, he joined St. Mark United Methodist Church and faithfully served for many years in several capacities. He later joined Freedom Zone Worship Center, where he became a Deacon. Butch gave his time, energy, and support to the ministries of his church and served faithfully. He had a true love for God and his church and was loved by both congregations.

Butch will be remembered for his straightforward nature and for the countless ways he showed love through both his words and his actions. His greatest legacy is not simply the work he accomplished, but the people he loved and the lives he touched. Though his hands spent many years building and repairing engines and transmissions, his greatest work was the family, relationships, and memories he helped build.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Luella Herbert; his wife, Gloria Wilson; his sister, Barbara; and his brothers, Charles, Clarence Jr., Lawrence, and Robert.

Those left to cherish his memory include his daughters, Cynthia Wilson and Stacy Wilson-Washington; his sons, Damion (LaShan) Wilson, Lamont (Susan) Wilson, and Lionel (Laurie) Wilson; his sister, Januarie Belanger; his stepchildren, Ricardo Cartledge and Ricarla Cartledge; and his devoted lifelong friend, Veronica L. Shareef.

He also leaves to cherish his memory his grandchildren: Travis Crosby, Kenya Washington, Kyle Harrington, Travell Crosby, Damion Wilson Jr., Geniece Wilson, Fallon Wilson, Robert Wilson, Chantel Lanigan, Tommy Banks, Laniece Wilson, Kre’Sean Hall, Kindle Reeves, Nakita Cartledge, and Ricardo Cartledge Jr.

His great-grandchildren include Amaiya, Winter, Snoh, Deonte, LaDream, Bahary, Zaniya, DaVinci, Damia, Sahar, Samir, Prisayiss, Adam, Logan, Gideon, and Joel, along with a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, cousins, and friends.

May Butch’s soul find eternal peace, and may his life be remembered as a testament to love, dedication, and the bonds that will remain forever in our hearts.
