Atha Bell Thomas, a cherished matriarch and pillar of her family, departed this earthly realm on February 27, 2026, at the age of 96, in Augusta, Georgia. Born on October 27, 1929, in Emmanuel County, Georgia, Atha lived a life that was as rich in love as it was in experience, leaving behind a legacy that will forever dwell in the hearts of her loved ones.
Having dedicated a significant portion of her life to service, Atha retired from the esteemed S & S Cafeteria, where her warmth and kindness enriched the daily lives of many. She cultivated enduring connections, not merely as a professional but as a beloved figure who brought joy and comfort to those she served.
Atha's family, a proud reflection of her spirit, includes her devoted son, James Wells, alongside her beloved daughters: Madine Edwards and Carolyn Morgan. Her legacy continues through the joyous laughter of her grandson, Michael Wells, and the diligent care of her step-daughter, Ruth Jones. She also leaves behind her dear sister, Ruth Hall, whose companionship was a cornerstone in Atha's life.
She is preceded in death by her cherished parents, Hellen Wells and Percy Sherman Wells, who imparted the values and love that shaped her into the exceptional person she became. Their memories live on, entwined with a daughter whose impact on family and community will not be forgotten.
The viewing to honor Atha's life will be held on Friday, March 13, 2026, from 2:00 PM until 6:00 PM at C.A. Reid Sr. Memorial Funeral Home, located at 314-A Laney Walker Blvd Ext., Augusta, GA 30901. This will be followed by a funeral service on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at True Vine Missionary Baptist Church, commencing at 2:30 PM, with interment at South View Cemetery, where she will find eternal rest at 3:45 PM.
Atha Bell Thomas’s life was a testament to resilience, compassion, and love. As her family and friends gather to celebrate her profound impact, they will forever embody her spirit, carrying forward the values she instilled in each of them. Her legacy is an everlasting memory, warmly embraced and dearly cherished by all who were fortunate enough to know her.
