Byron Mims was born on June 23, 1957. He peacefully departed this life on July 30, 2026. He was educated at Glenn Hill High School, and at an early age, Byron was baptized at Moses Baptist Church and later joined Good Shepherd Baptist Church.
Throughout his life, Byron was known as a kind, humble, and caring man whose quiet strength, warm smile, and generous spirit left a lasting impression on everyone blessed to know him. He valued faith, family, friendship, and community. He found joy in spending time with those he loved most. Whether sharing stories, lending a helping hand, or simply offering encouragement, he lived a life that reflected compassion and integrity.
Mr. Mims worked at Sibley Mill and Murray Brick Company and believed in saving money.
Byron leaves a behind a legacy of love, perseverance, and cherished memories that will continue to inspire all who knew him. Though he will be deeply missed, his life serves as a reminder that the greatness is measured not by possessions, but by the love we give and the lives we touch.
He was preceded in death by: beloved parents; and three siblings, Jennifer Ann Mims, Eugene Mims, and Arnold Lynn Mims.
Byron leaves to cherish his precious memories: brothers, Richard (Valarie) Mims of Augusta, GA, Jarvis (Brenda) Mims, Derrick (LaToya) Mims, Reginald Mims, DeWayne Mims of Columbia, SC, and Kevin (Sheryl) Mims of Killeen, TX; sister, Karen (John) Pritchett of Augusta, GA; daughter, Tracie L. Simmons; grandchildren, Terrell L. Simmons, Kendall X. Carpenter, and Michael M. Carpenter; great-grandchildren, London Simmons and Ashton Simmons; great-aunt, Dot Mills; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, dear friends, neighbors, and loved ones.
