Daryl K. Smith, a beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 2, 2025, in Augusta, Georgia, at the age of 70. Born on February 11, 1955, in Brooklyn, New York, Daryl lived a life marked by service, dedication, and love for his family and community.
A proud member of the United States Navy, Daryl served his country with honor, embodying the values of duty and commitment. His career took him to the Smithsonian Institute in Washington, D.C., where he worked in special security, ensuring the safety of the treasured artifacts that narrate the rich tapestry of American history. He later found his way to Augusta, Georgia, where he worked steadfastly at S & S Cafeteria, becoming a familiar face in the community. Additionally, Daryl served as a part-time clerk at the Veterans Administration, continuing to support his fellow veterans in any capacity he could.
Daryl was a man of ongoing learning and growth, a testament to his education at Hallsboro High School, which laid the foundation for his diverse and fulfilling career. His journey through life was filled with many milestones, each driven by his relentless spirit and a deep-seated desire to care for those around him.
He is survived by his cherished family members, who will hold onto his memory dearly. His son, Delonte Lavor Jones, and grandson, Delonte L. Jones II, will forever carry his legacy. Daryl is also survived by his sisters, Linda Smith and Mary G. Smith; his brother, Cedric Perry (Peggy) Smith; and his aunts, Betty James, Bernice Smith, Jessie Maxwell, and Mary Lee Goodwin. His fiancée, Sabrina Y. Jones, and honorary brother, Donald Davis, were also integral parts of his life. Along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, Daryl’s presence touched many lives.
Daryl was predeceased by his loving parents, Joseph P. Smith and Beatrice Smith, whose unwavering support shaped the man he became. Their love and guidance were the cornerstones of his character, instilling in him the values that he would pass on to his own family.
As we gather to celebrate Daryl's life, we invite family and friends to join us for a visitation on Friday, August 15, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM, followed by a Celebration of Life on Saturday, August 16, 2025, starting at 2:30 PM, both taking place at C.A. Reid Sr. Memorial Funeral Home in Augusta, Georgia.
Daryl K. Smith was not just a man who lived; he was a man who loved deeply. His laughter, wisdom, and warmth will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
