He leaves behind an example of faithfulness, kinship, and humble strength that will be cherished always.

David “Root” Hope passed away on July 10, 2026, in Augusta, Georgia, bringing to a close a life marked by dedication, hard work, faith, and love for family. Born on July 21, 1948, in Burke County, Georgia, David was the beloved son of the late Sam Hope and Jannie Mae Hope.

David’s early years were spent in the gentle surroundings of Burke County, where he attended school through the Burke County School System. From these roots, he established a foundation of perseverance and integrity that would guide him throughout his life. David gave his life to Christ at a young age, a deeply meaningful decision, and grew in faith while attending McElMurray Spring Branch Baptist Church.

Throughout his life, David was known as a dedicated worker and a man who wore many hats with skill and pride. He spent many years working on the farm, contributing to his community and supporting his loved ones through honest labor. He drove trucks for Pat Dudley Lumber Company for many years, showcasing his unwavering commitment and reliability. In addition to trucking, David honed his skills as a brick mason, shaping sturdy structures with his hands and leaving tangible reminders of his hard work across the community. Later, he brought his strong work ethic and dependable spirit to Picadilly Cafeteria, where he became well-known to both colleagues and patrons.

Family meant everything to David, and he leaves behind a loving legacy. He is survived by his devoted wife, Gloria Bradford, whose partnership was a source of comfort and strength; his daughter, Michelle Ruffin, who carries forward his values and love; and his brother-in-law, Johnny Lewis, whose companionship was treasured. David is also mourned by his many brothers and sisters, nieces, nephews, cousins, and grandchildren, all of whom will remember him as a source of warmth, wisdom, and support. The presence of his grandchildren brought special joy to his days, and he passed on his stories and lessons generously.

David’s parents, Sam and Jannie Mae Hope, preceded him in death. Their loving example shaped the man David became and the life he lived.
