It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Doris Ann Mitchell, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother sister, and friend. Doris, who was born on August 31, 1948, in Augusta, Georgia, departed this world on June 20, 2025, in Fayetteville, Georgia. She lived a life filled with love, compassion, and a dedication to her family that inspired all who knew her.
Doris cherished her role as a mother and took immense pride in her children: Norma Smith, Mark Watson, and Zayna Worrell. Her unwavering support for them shaped their lives and instilled in them the values of kindness and perseverance. She was equally devoted to her grandchildren—Shamar Smith, Dewayne S. Smith, Dante Smith, Tristan Watson, D'Marcus Watson, and D'Mitri Watson—who brought her immeasurable joy and laughter. As a great-grandmother, she delighted in the life of Naviah Smith, showering her with love and affection.
Doris was also a beloved sister to her eight siblings, including Rosella Cox, Barbara Evans, and Gussie Clayton. The bonds she shared with them were profound and filled with cherished memories. Doris's legacy extends beyond her immediate family; she is remembered fondly by her nieces, nephews, and other relatives, each touched by her warmth and wisdom. Her friends describe her as a beacon of light in their lives, someone who always offered a listening ear and a caring heart.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents, Leroy and Dorothy Mitchell, who laid a foundation of love and strength that she carried with her throughout her life. Their spirits live on in the stories shared and the love that continues to flourish in Doris's family.
Her visitation will be held on Friday, June 27, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM at C.A. Reid Sr. Memorial Funeral Home, located at 314-A Laney Walker Blvd Ext. in Augusta, Georgia.
