It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Dwellie “SUGAR” Hill, born on September 17, 1941, in Louisville, Georgia, passed away on September 15, 2025 in Augusta, Georgia. Dwellie was a lifelong resident of Augusta, GA whose spirit will forever be remembered by those who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Dwellie was a devoted father, proud grandfather, and a cherished member of his church South Augusta Church of Christ in Augusta, Georgia. He worked for a few years at Walmart in Evans, Georgia, where he was known not only for his hard work and dedication but also for the kindness and warmth he showed to coworkers and customers alike. His smile and friendly nature made everyone feel welcome.
Above all, Dwellie treasured his family. Family was always the most important thing to him. His family will always remember him for cheering from the sidelines, sharing a meal, teaching them how to drive and the way he never missed an opportunity to lend a helping hand.
He is preceded in death by his mother Mary Hill, three sisters Mattie Daniel, Maggie Dixon, and Earstine Hill.
He is survived by his beloved son Shawn Hill Sr., two daughters Pamela Weathers and Denisea Howard, eleven grandchildren: De’Ja Mitchell, Cheaslei Weathers, Eric Jordan, Imari Weathers, Jasmine Rogers, Braxton Bussey, Trevor Laborn, Jenesis Hill, Shawn Hill Jr., Prysen Hill Levy, and Skyler Hill, one great grandchild Josiah Cohens, one brother Bernice (Mary) Palmer, devoted formal wife Rebecca Smith, one brother-in-law George Dixon, and host of nieces, nephews, family, friends and coworkers.
Visitation will be held at C.A. Reid Sr. Memorial Funeral Home in Augusta, Georgia, on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, from 2:00 PM until 6:00 PM. The funeral service will take place at South Augusta Church of Christ in Augusta, Georgia, on Wednesday, September commencing at 11 AM.
