Mr. Edward L. Harris "Poppy" was born in Beaufort, South Carolina on February 6, 1945 to the late Edward L. Harris, Sr and the late Matilda Green Harris. On Wednesday, September 30, 2026, he transitioned from his earthly life to life eternal at the age of 81. Other than his parents, Edward was preceded in death by his wife Betty Jean Moore-Harris, three brothers Leroy Green, Lester Harris, Frank Harris and one sister Rose Green.
Edward matriculated in the schools of Beaufort County, SC and graduated from Robert Smalls High School with the Class of 1963. Following graduation, Edward enlisted into the United States Army. He was a proud Vietnam Veteran serving two tours in combat. Upon return, Edward Harris rose to the ranks of a Senior Noncommissioned Officer First Sergeant whereby his platoon referred to him as "Cool Breeze." After a successful career in the United States Army, Edward retired serving 25 years. He later worked at Savannah River Site Wackenhut/Centerra Security Company as a Security Officer for 20 years.
Edward accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age. His favorite scriptures included Psalm 23, Psalm 121 and Isaiah 43. He was the ultimate "Grill Master" and loved Earth, Wind and Fire!
Surviving his departure with cherished memories include: his four children, Yolanda (Levi) Brown, Teresa Harris, Edward "Louie" Harris all of Hephzibah, GA and Aisha Dixon of Grovetown, GA; six grandchildren Olivia Brown Stover of Grovetown, GA, Victoria Brown of Durhan, NC, Jared (Dr. April Johnson) Brown of Barboursville, VA, Kameryn Dixon of Canton, GA, Lalah Dixon of Grovetown, GA and Nadia Harris of Augusta, GA; four great-grandchildren Robyn Stover, Ravyn Stover, Rayna Stover and Ronald Stover IV; one sister Edreca Gray of Charleston, SC; three brothers Bill Harris of Beaufort, SC, Marshall Harris of St Helena Island, SC and Mark (Alfreda) Harris of Ridgeland, SC; two aunts Victoria Green Simmons and Octavia Holloway of Jersey City, NJ and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, other relatives and friends.
