Gloria Jean Kelley-Lewis, a beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, and friend, peacefully departed this world on July 24, 2025, in Georgia, at the age of 70. Born on February 21, 1955, Gloria lived her life with an unwavering dedication to her family and her faith. Every day was a new opportunity for her to strive to be a better and more Godly person, a testament to her deep-seated belief in the goodness of life and the value of love.
From an early age, Gloria joined Green Grove A.M.E. Zion Church, where she began nurturing her spiritual journey. Her faith deepened as she later became a cherished member of Mays Grove Missionary Baptist Church, a community she embraced wholeheartedly after meeting the love of her life, Obediah Lewis, Sr. Together, they created a nurturing and loving home, centered around faith, family, and compassion.
Gloria’s family meant the world to her, and her love resonated deeply with every member. She is survived by her devoted husband, Obediah Lewis, Sr., and her children Richard E. Yancey, II; Erica V. Moore; Ricshey R. Yancey; and stepdaughter Adrian (Ken) Green. As a grandmother, she was a source of joy and light to her grandchildren: Derrick, Jr.; Darian; Donovan; Dayla; Mckenzie; Morgan; and Macie. Each grandchild held a special place in her heart, and her affection for them knew no bounds.
In addition to her immediate family, Gloria is survived by her sisters Irene K. Williams and Eloise Kelley, and brothers Charleston "Jackie" (Rebecca) Kelley, Jr.; Anthony "Teny" (Esther) Kelley; Calvin "KID" (Cynthia) Kelley; Mickey "Mike" Kelley; Donnell (Dorothy) Kelley; Wesley (Veronica) Kelley; Alfonso "Jody" Kirkland; Stanley (Adrienne) Bostic; and Johnny Lee Anderson. Her loving sister-in-law Florence Kelley and sisters-in-law Gwendolyn Lewis, Ollie Lewis Gamble, Sharon Anfield, Lisa Anfield, LaSana R. Anfield, Hattie Lewis, along with her brother-in-laws Reverend Alvin (Linda) Lewis, Jr., Arthur (Ann) Lewis, and Dr. Michael Lewis will also keep her memory alive. Ms. Mattie Hodge, her special godmother, held a unique place in Gloria's heart and shared many cherished moments with her.
Gloria’s heart was anchored in family, and she loved dearly, always striving to cultivate warmth and connection with her loved ones. Her absence will be felt profoundly, but her spirit will surely linger in the hearts of those she touched so deeply.
A visitation will be held in her honor on July 30, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM at C.A. Reid Sr. Memorial Funeral Home, 314-A Laney Walker Blvd Ext., Augusta, GA 30901. Her funeral service will take place on July 31, 2025, at 11:30 AM at Roberson Grove Baptist Church, 985 Georgia 24, Waynesboro, GA 30830.
As we remember Gloria, we embrace the legacy of love she leaves behind—a reminder of a life dedicated to family, faith, and the pursuit of goodness. She will forever remain in our hearts, the embodiment of kindness and grace.
