Gloria Jean Scott

Gloria Thomas Scott was born in Augusta, Georgia to Rena Thomas and Lucious Thomas.

Mrs. Gloria graduated from T. W. Josey High School. She resided in Downtown Augusta, Georgia, along with her siblings. Gloria was the fourth of eleven children, whom she loved unconditionally.

The most inspiring figure in her life was her grandmother, Rena Jones Brightheart, better known as "Mama Rena". The bond between Mama Rena stemmed from her childhood. At the age of 7, she found aspirations in the culinary field, further igniting her passions to create homemade culinary delights enjoyed by all. Throughout her many years as a self-taught master culinary manipulator.

Before her eventful departure from Augusta, Georgia, she had two sons, her beloved Tracey and Timothy. She relocated to Decatur Street in 1969 in Brooklyn, New York, along with her mother and a few siblings. Upon her arrival to Brooklyn, she met her mentor and influencer, Love Anthony Buster Holston. They had a daughter, Yahna Holston Richardson, also known as

"Stephanie". Three years later, her daughter, Lakenya, was born. Later in life, she had two additional children, her cherished son, Sherman, and daughter, Cora Rena Thomas. They spent their early years located in Brooklyn, New York.

Thanks to the techniques learned from Mama Rena, Gloria opened her first successful restaurant named Smurfette, located on Saratoga Avenue in Brooklyn. The success of Smurfette led to the opening of Gloria's Country Cooking, located on Howard Avenue in Brooklyn. After the passing of her beloved son, Tracey Thomas, she returned to Augusta, Georgia, where she opened the Hallelujah Restaurant, located on Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard. This restaurant received prominent success. She was also employed with S and S Cafeteria and retired from HB Food Service, located on Fort Gordon, Georgia.

Upon her return to Augusta, Georgia, she eventually married her husband, Nell Scott, Jr. They continued their marriage until his passing, thus making her a widow until her own passing.
