Mrs. Gwendolyn Ivey McCrary, daughter of the late Ned Ivey Sr. and Georgeanna McCain, was born on August 17, 1954, in Augusta, Georgia.
At an early age, Gwendolyn accepted Christ as her Savior and was baptized at Tremount Temple Baptist Church. She possessed a beautiful and gentle spirit and faithfully served on the Usher Board. She later continued her spiritual journey at Greater Young Zion Baptist Church, where she also served devotedly on the Usher Board. Gwen remained a faithful servant of God until her health began to decline in 2019.
Gwendolyn was an outstanding student and a proud graduate of T.W. Josey High School, Class of 1973.In 1973, she was united in holy matrimony to the late Leonard McCrary Jr. Their loving union endured for 45 years, until his passing on February 12, 2019. Together they built a beautiful family and were blessed with four children.
Gwen dedicated 23 years of faithful service to Augusta University, where she worked as an Office Manager in the Counseling & Testing/Disability Services Department before retiring.
Gwen found joy in dancing and singing, but her greatest love was her family. She cherished her husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and devoted her life to caring for and supporting them. Her warmth, kindness, faith, and loving spirit will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
She leaves to cherish her precious memories four devoted children: Steven (Candice) McCrary, Michelette (Marvin) Green, Lakeesha (Allen) Sconiers, and Leonard (Sharmeka) McCrary. She was a loving and proud grandmother to18 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, 4 sisters, 1 brother and a host of dear nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and cherished friends whose lives were touched by her love and kindness.
