Herbert A. Stokes, born on April 8, 1951, in Augusta, Georgia, passed away peacefully on April 28, 2025, in the very city that nurtured his early years. He was a devoted technician, contributing his skills to both Western Electric and Southern Bell, but those who knew him understood that his greatest passion lay not only in his work but in the joys of a life filled with love, family, and the mechanics of cars.
Baptized at an early age at Liberty Baptist Church, Herbert grew to embody the values of hard work and determination instilled in him. His education began at Silas A. Floyd Elementary and continued through A.R. Johnson Junior High and Lucy C. Laney High School, culminating in his studies at Augusta Technical School. These formative years laid the groundwork for a career that would intertwine his love for cars with his dedication to service. His passion for working on vehicles was not merely a profession; it was an integral part of who he was—reflecting a mind that thrived on understanding intricate mechanics and the satisfaction in bringing life back to a beloved car.
Herbert's presence radiated warmth, and he was a pillar of strength and reliability to his family, friends, and colleagues. His kindness and good nature will not be easily forgotten, as he leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter. Herbert's love for his craft was matched only by his affection for those around him, and he frequently shared knowledge, stories, and the occasional hearty laugh with anyone willing to listen.
A visitation will be held in remembrance of Herbert on Thursday, May 8, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM at C.A. Reid Sr. Memorial Funeral Home, located at 314-A Laney Walker Blvd Ext., Augusta, GA.
