Hope Rejance Moody

August 14, 1967 — June 30, 2025

Austin, Texas

Hope Rejance Moody was born on December 14, 1967, to the late Deacon Lenwood Moody Sr. and the late Missionary Rebecca Moody. She was preceded in death by her beloved brother, Lenwood Moody Jr.

Hope graduated from T.W. Josey High School in June 1987. During her high school years, Hope participated in the Special Olympics and was recognized in the Augusta Chronicles. Earlier in life, she attended Lynndale School, where she formed lasting bonds with many special teachers and friends, and gained valuable life skills that helped shape her journey.

Hope brought joy to everyone around her. She had a deep love for church, music, singing, basketball, long walks and Fried Chicken! She also delighted in looking at magazines and books—coloring books were her favorite. Her face would light up whenever she engaged in the activities she loved most.

A devoted member of Mason Chapel C.O.G.I.C., Hope found spiritual nourishment and community in her faith. While living in Augusta, Georgia, she received compassionate care from Brenda and Eddie Edwards of Humming Birds Care Facility. The family is eternally grateful for the love and connection Brenda shared with Hope.

In 2014, Hope relocated to Austin, Texas. After residing in several group homes, God blessed her with the care of Clara and Freeman Joubert, a loving couple who provided unwavering support, patience, and kindness. Hope also enjoyed many adventures, from swimming and traveling to new places, to meeting new people, during her time with Clara and Freeman Joubert, who welcomed her into their home with open arms.

The family is deeply thankful to Clara for the countless hours and heartfelt attention she gave to Hope throughout her time with them.

As Hope’s needs grew, she transitioned to Exceptional Employment Services in June 2025, where she received 24/7 care. Though her time there was brief, the staff quickly adapted to her needs with the guidance and support of Clara Joubert.

Hope leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. She is survived by her sister, Joyce L. Byers (Nicholas J. Byers) of Austin, Texas; her aunt, Martha M. Rumph (Thomas Sr.) of Augusta, Georgia; nephews Nicholas J. Byers II, Craig S. Byers (Hana M. Byers), Jeremy V. Byers (Megan S. Byers), Leonard Moody, and Torenza Shephard (Elizabeth Shephard); niece Geanne Pierre-Gordon; and a host of great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and dear friends. The family extends heartfelt thanks to Clara and Freeman Joubert, Draco Services, and all who supported Hope with love and care throughout her life .
