Mr. Jessie Curtis Anderson, lovingly known as "Mo Gas," "Curtis Blow," and "Captain Kirk of Augusta," transitioned to his heavenly home on Saturday, May 30, 2026, at the VA Hospital. He was surrounded by his caregivers, Chahazara and Antonio Clark, after a lengthy battle with dementia.
Jessie was born on February 22, 1952, in Augusta, Georgia, to the late Joell. Anderson and the late Ruth Washington Anderson. He attended Lucy Craft Laney High School in Augusta, Georgia.
Following graduation, Curtis joined the military on December 2, 1974. He proudly served his country for six years. During his military career, he trained to become a Drill Sergeant, successfully completed the program, and served in that role for three years.
After leaving the military, Curtis continued his commitment to public service by working as a Lead Guard for the Department of the Navy in Hawaii for three years. Because he enjoyed security work, he later pursued additional training and became a Federal Prison Guard in Washington, D.C. Curtis retired after many years of dedicated service and returned to Augusta, Georgia, to spend time with his family and friends.
Mr. Anderson was preceded in death by his siblings, Marie Ruth Anderson, Joell. Anderson, and George Anderson.
Curtis leaves behind a host of loved ones who will forever cherish his memory. He is survived by his son, Jerry Maseko Anderson of Augusta, Georgia; his daughter, Chanazara (Antonio) Clark of Grovetown, Georgia; and was preceded in death by his daughter, Africa Holmes of Augusta, Georgia; his siblings, Marion Clay, Jerry (Allean) Anderson, and Lyndon F. Anderson, along with a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Curtis also leaves behind his special friend of more than 52 years, Barbara A. Johnson of Augusta, Georgia.
