John Willie Wilcher, born on February 22, 1945, passed away peacefully on July 7, 2026. John’s journey was shaped by enduring values, steadfast faith, and a deep love for family, leaving a legacy cherished by those who had the privilege to know him.

Born to Aris N. Smith and C.W. Wilcher, both preceding him in death, John was raised in Georgia, where he attended school in Gibson. His formative years in this close-knit community helped shape his warm, thoughtful character and earnest approach to life.

Faith was central to John’s life. He was baptized at Sandy Grove Baptist Church in Mitchell, Georgia, by the late Rev. Eddie Gibson—a milestone that marked the beginning of a lifelong devotion to his spiritual beliefs. Later, John found community and fellowship at Holly Spring Baptist Church in Warthen, Georgia, where his presence was valued and his commitment to faith steadfast.

John was preceded in death by his beloved sister, Lillie Ruth Wilcher Mathis, as well as his parents. His memory continues to live on in the hearts of his devoted family: his son, Carlos Roberts; his brother, Tinsley Wilcher; and his sister, Ollie Mae Warthen. John’s legacy further endures through his cherished granddaughter, niece, nephew, cousin, and many friends who appreciated his kindness, wisdom, and generous spirit.

Throughout his 81 years, John touched many lives with quiet strength, loyalty, and humility. Though words may fail to encompass all he meant to those around him, his faith, resilience, and love will be dearly remembered and honored.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects at a viewing, to be held on Thursday, July 24, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at C.A. Reid Sr. Memorial Funeral Home, 314-A Laney Walker Blvd Ext., Augusta, GA 30901. A graveside service will take place on Friday, July 25, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Holly Spring Church, Old Chalker Rd, Warthen, GA 31094.
