Lee Edward Jones, Sr.

Lee Edward Jones, Sr., a devoted pastor and custodian, passed away on June 19, 2025, in Augusta, Georgia. Born on September 30, 1941, in Jefferson County, Georgia, Lee lived a life dedicated to service and community.

Throughout his career, Lee was the pastor at Peel Grove Baptist Church, Third Chapel, and later served as a spiritual leader at McKinney Branch Baptist Church. His unwavering faith and commitment to his calling inspired many in the congregations he served. In addition to his pastoral duties, Lee also worked as a custodian with the Richmond County Public School System, where he was known for his strong work ethic and dedication to providing a clean and safe environment for students and staff.

Lee is survived by his loving wife, Jennie L. Jones, and his children: Lee (Beverly) Jones, Amos Jones, Betty (Phillip) Usry, Rosa Jones, and Katie (Chris) Jones. He also leaves behind his sister, Johnnie Mae Jackson, along with brothers-in-law James (Bessie) Evans and Allen (Linda) Jenkins, and sister-in-law Idaho (Seaborn) Jones and Evangelist Burnese Lovett. His family extends to twenty-one grandchildren, forty-three great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. Additionally, he is remembered by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Lee is preceded in death by his cherished daughter, Alice M. Jones, and grandson, Jarvis L. Jones.

Visitation will be held at C.A. Reid Sr. Memorial Funeral Home in Augusta, Georgia, on June 27, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM. A funeral service will follow on June 28, 2025, at McKinney Branch Baptist Church in Waynesboro, Georgia, commencing at 11:00 AM, with interment scheduled at 12:15 PM at the same location.

The legacy of Lee Edward Jones, Sr. endures through the lives he touched and the love he shared, embodying a spirit of faith that resonates with all who knew him.
