On June 11, 1977, God blessed the world with the birth of a beautiful bouncing baby boy named Lionell R. Murray, at Harlem Hospital in Harlem, New York. His arrival brought tremendous joy to his parents, Edith and Sammie, and older brother Jamel. Shortly after, the family relocated to Charlotte, North Carolina, before eventually making South Carolina their home.
Lionell was a bright and intelligent man who valued education and knowledge. He began his early education at Manning Primary Elementary School in Manning, South Carolina. After the family moved to Hephzibah, Georgia, he continued his studies at Langford Middle School and later attended Academy of Richmond County. He also participated in the National Guard Youth Challenge Program in Savannah, Georgia. Lionell had a remarkable gift for conversation and could speak knowledgeably on almost any topic. His personality was unforgettable — he could fill a room with laughter, brighten difficult moments, and touch hearts in a way few people could.
In 2003, Lionell met the love of his life, Miss Jacquette Perdue. Together they built a loving and devoted relationship. Jacquette's four children quickly became his own, and Lionell embraced the role of fatherhood with love, care, and pride.
Those Lionell leaves behind with a lifetime of cherished memories are: his devoted parents, Mrs. Edith T. Murray and Sammie L. Murray of Santee, SC; brother, Jamel Murray of Greencastle, PA; beloved companion, Jacquette Perdue; their children; aunts, Shirley Shephard, Bettie Daniels, Mary Murray, Frances Moore, Beatrice Rodgers, Kathleen Mair, Lenora Shaw, Mrs. Roberta Thomas, and Mrs. Regina Thomas; uncles, George Moore, Sidney Rodgers, Yisral Bey, Mr. Earl Murray, Mr. Michael Thomas, and Mr. Melvin Thomas; nephew, Jamel Wright; and a host of many cousins, extended family members, and countless friends whose lives were touched by his presence.
Though Lionell has departed from this earthly life, his laughter, wisdom, love, and spirit will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew him.
