Lura Maryland

Lura Maryland, a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on May 4, 2025, at the age of 80 in Augusta, Georgia. Born on September 10, 1944, in Mitchell, Georgia, Lura's journey through life was characterized by her unwavering compassion and dedication to helping others, highlighted by her career as a nursing assistant at Augusta Healthcare.

Lura was more than just a caregiver; she was a beacon of kindness and strength for all who met her. Her nurturing spirit extended beyond her professional life, encompassing her family and friends who cherished her dearly. She is survived by her loving children: Odell Maryland, Kelvin Maryland, Marcus (Teresa) Maryland, Carlton Maryland, and Natasha Brown. Each of them carries forward the values and love she instilled in them, ensuring her legacy lives on.

Her grandchildren, Mario (Whitney) Maryland, Devonte Hayes, Mikayla Jenkins, Tekel (Destiny) Dunn, and Celvin Rouse, knew their grandmother as a source of joy and wisdom. Lura's light only grew brighter with each generation, as she also celebrated the births of her great-grandchildren: Braylon Maryland, Aubree Maryland, Brooklyn Maryland, Aunezsti Gibbons, Skylar Maryland, Au'Brelle Gibbons, Zahlayla Kirksey, Saylor Maryland, and Hasani Dunn. She took pride in each of their accomplishments and made every moment spent with them memorable.

Lura also held dear her devoted aunt, Mary Cheely, whose bond reflected the loving ties of family that Lura valued so deeply.

As we remember Lura, we celebrate her life’s work and the impact she made on everyone around her. A memorial service will be held in her honor on Saturday, May 17, 2025, at Beulah Grove Baptist Church in Augusta, Georgia, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM.

Lura Maryland’s remarkable spirit and loving heart will be forever missed, but her legacy of kindness and love will undoubtedly endure in those she touched.
