Mario LeDerrick Smith, born on May 3, 1979, in Augusta, Georgia, passed away peacefully in his hometown on September 7, 2025. He was a dedicated individual who devoted much of his career to waste management, where he made significant contributions to the community.
Mario will be remembered for his hard work and commitment to the environment, and he touched the lives of many with his cheerful disposition and unwavering dedication to service. His contributions in the field were marked by a strong sense of responsibility and a desire to improve the community around him.
Mario leaves to cherish his memory: mother, Julia Smith; sister, Antonia Brinson; father, Ricky Jones; brother, Deonte Jones; five nephews, Dori Quarrvis JaQuan, DeAngelo and Henry, Alfonzo; great uncle, Maddison, Mason, Zoey, Zay, Zion, Kahla, DeAngelo, Jr., Messiah, Kingston, Kaide and Skylar; godfathers, Fred Jones and Jeffery Quarter; godmother, Betty Marshal; great nieces and nephews, Bobby Maurice, Walter, Robert, James and Paul; aunts, Constance, Tawanda, Evelyn and Patricia; great aunt, Nellie Booker, great uncle, William Booker and a best friend, Chris Burley; and a host of family and friends that loved him dearly.
A memorial service to honor his life and legacy will be held on September 27, 2025, at C.A. Reid Sr. Memorial Funeral Home, located at 314-A Laney Walker Blvd Ext., Augusta, GA 30901. The service will begin at 11:00 AM and conclude at 12:00 PM.
Mario’s passing leaves a significant void in the lives of all who knew him. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered for his kindness and commitment to his work and community.
