Mary Jane Dunn

Mary Jane Dunn, a beloved daughter of Augusta, Georgia, departed this world on October 19, 2025, at the age of 78. Born on January 5, 1947, in the same city that would nurture and envelop her throughout her life, Mary Jane retired from her cherished role at Smoaks Bakery, where her dedication and craftsmanship were an integral part of the local community's sweetness.

She was a woman of profound character, embodying a quiet life filled with love and an unwavering commitment to her family. A devoted mother, she took pride in raising her children, instilling in them values, wisdom, and a deep familial bond that would last throughout the challenges and triumphs of life. Though sorrowfully bereaved by the passing of her husband, Willie Burnette, and her son, Stevie Dunn, the legacy of love and memory they left behind is a testament to the enduring strength of familial ties.

Mary leaves behind her son, Charles (Lisa) Dunn, with whom she shared countless memories. Her grandchild, Maria Philpot, and two great-grandchildren were the light of her life, evoking joy in her heart and pride in her every gesture. The warmth of her spirit will forever be felt by her siblings, Charles Dunn (Janice), Shirley Hacker, Sheila Dunn, and her bonus sister, Ann Nesmith, alongside an extended family of nieces, nephews, and cousins whose lives she touched.

A visitation to honor her life will be held at C.A. Reid Sr. Memorial Funeral Home in Augusta, Georgia, on Friday, October 31, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM. Following the visitation, a funeral service will take place at Simonia Baptist Church in Appling, Georgia, commencing at 2:30 PM on Saturday, November 1, 2025. The interment is scheduled to follow, paying final respects at the same venue at 3:45 PM.
