Mr. Robert Lee Walker was born on August 12, 1933, in Augusta, Georgia, and peacefully transitioned on January 16, 2026, in his hometown of Augusta, Georgia.
Robert was educated in the Richmond County School System. At an early age, he left home and spent several years living in New York City before returning to Georgia, where he built a life rooted in family, hard work, and faith.
He was born to the late Thomas Walker, Sr. Robert never knew his birth mother but was lovingly raised in the home of his father and stepmother, the late Mrs. Alice Hannah Walker. He was preceded in death by one sister, Ann Walker Grider, and one brother, Thomas F. Walker III.
Robert married the love of his life, the late Ellen Louise Walker. During Ellen’s illness in her later years, Robert devoted himself to her care. He lovingly took on the roles of caregiver, cook, and homemaker, honoring the years Ellen had dedicated as a stay-at-home mother. Their love and commitment stood as a true example of devotion.
Robert was an avid sports fan and could often be found in his recliner cheering on his favorite teams: the Golden State Warriors, Atlanta Falcons, Georgia Bulldogs, and his all-time favorite, the Pittsburgh Steelers.
He was preceded in death by three children: one son, Irshad Muwwakkil, and two daughters, Carlis Ann Bowdre and Regina Renee Griffin.
Robert was a dedicated and hardworking man. He began his working years at Pratt Dudley Lumber Yard and later worked at Merry Brothers Brick Yard, which he often described as the hardest job he ever had—walking to work faithfully in rain, sleet, or snow. After those physically demanding jobs, he worked as a butcher at Bi-Lo and several other grocery stores for over 20 years. After a brief retirement, he continued working at Isdell Furniture Store for more than 10 years before fully retiring.
At the age of 92, Robert’s illness was brief, a testament to God’s grace over his life. He lived most of his years with very little sickness, reflecting the strength and favor that carried him throughout his lifetime.
He leaves to cherish his memory three loving and devoted sons: Joseph Walker, Rev. Timothy (Tonya) Walker, Sr., and Kenneth (Francine) Walker; one loving and devoted daughter, Deadra (Rev.Karl) Kelly; one sister, Margaret Black; 16 grandchildren; a host of great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and dear friends.
