Ruby Jean Postell-Baker

August 11, 1949 — July 10, 2025

Augusta, Georgia

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, sister and friend Ruby Postell Baker, who went home to be with the Lord on July 10, 2025 after a long hard fought battle with cancer.

Ruby had a generous spirit and was well known in the community for her activism with causes such as sickle cell awareness and community crime as well as and educational scholarship fund that she managed each year. Ruby was known to feed those who were hungry and to help those less fortunate.

Ruby is survived by her 2 sons, Arthur H Baker Jr (Theresa) and Barry M Baker; her grandchildren Paris, China and Zyone Baker; and her brother David Postell as well as countless nieces and nephews. Her spirit is alive in her family and friends, of which there were many.

Ruby was preceded in death by her parents Reverand Robert and Mrs Emma Jean Postell; her daughter Renee R Baker and her sisters Lou Ida Lowe and Emma Ellis and brothers Joseph and Robert Postell.

During her very full life, Ruby acknowledged by many organizations for her tireless work on their behalf: the NAACP, Mt Calvery Mens Outreach, Disabled American Veterans and Creative Ones pre-school just to name a few.

Ruby was a life member of WHOM Missionary Society and Deaconess of AME Mt Zion and most recently had been attending Tremont Temple Baptist Church.

Ruby enjoyed travelling with her Pinocle Club to tournaments all over the country as well as travelling internationally with friends and family. She was blessed to have seen Jamaica, the Bahamas, Trinidad, Canada, Japan, Spain and Italy. She loved bringing back trinkets for everyone so they could share in her adventures.

The viewing will be held on Thursday July 17th at CA Reid Funeral Home 314 A Laney Walker Blvd Augusta 30901 from 2-6 PM. Service will be at AME Mt Zion 1237 Summer St Augusta 30901 at 11:00 AM Friday July 18th. Interment will be at Mt Olive Memorial Gardens 3666 Deans Bridge Rd Hephzibah 230815.
