Vadis Arvin Pond, Sr.

July 24, 1942 — May 12, 2025

Martinez, Georgia

Vadis Arvin Pond, Sr., age 82, of Martinez, Georgia, passed away peacefully at home on May 12, 2025.

Born on July 24, 1942, in Augusta, Georgia, Vadis was a proud Navy veteran and later retired from Local Union 150 after many dedicated years of service. In 1965, he married the love of his life, Betty Ruth Odom, and together they shared 58 beautiful years of marriage filled with love, laughter, and enduring commitment.

Vadis lived a rich and fulfilling life, leaving an indelible mark on all who knew him. He was known for his ever-present smile and his many signature sayings, always bringing a sense of humor and joy to those around him. A devoted member of Warren Baptist Church, Vadis actively served in the Joy Club and the children’s ministry, where his faith and love for others shone brightly.

He cherished life’s simple pleasures—fishing, golfing, and especially sliding down the pool slide with his grandchildren. He was happiest when surrounded by his large extended family, and he loved hosting gatherings, particularly his beloved Christmas Eve oyster stew celebration, a tradition fondly remembered by all who attended.

Vadis was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 58 years, Betty Ruth Odom Pond, and his brother, Henry Pond. He is survived by his loving children: daughter Kimberly (Lyle) Hogue, and sons Arvin (April) Pond Jr. and Michael (Kimberly) Pond.

He leaves behind a legacy of love in his grandchildren: Rebekah (Michael) Hogue, Rachel (Nathan) Hogue, Grace Hogue, Faith Hogue, Mason Pond, Claire Pond, Riley Pond, Drew Pond, Alex Pond, and Grayson Pond; and one great-grandson, Palmer Gamlin.

He is also survived by his siblings: Pat Laird, Carol Genova, and Danny Pond; his devoted niece, Tammy Odom; and a host of cherished nieces and nephews.

A man of unwavering faith, Vadis was a faithful Christian who found great joy in serving others. Though his presence will be deeply missed, his family finds comfort in knowing that he is now at peace in the arms of his Lord and Savior, joyfully reunited with his beloved Betty Ruth.
