Some people leave behind possessions. Others leave behind memories. Jean left behind love.

To know Jean was to experience unwavering love, genuine laughter, and a spirit that made every room feel a little brighter. She was the kind of woman who spoke her mind with confidence, possessed a sharp intellect, and could have an entire room laughing with her quick wit and unforgettable sense of humor. She loved her family fiercely and never pretended to be anyone other than herself. If Jean loved you, you knew it. If she had something to say, you knew that too and somehow, she'd leave you laughing before the conversation was over. Whether she was singing around the house, enjoying a good action movie, playing games with her grandbabies, or simply spending time with the people she loved most, Jean found joy in life's simple moments.

Born on December 16, 1970, in Augusta, Georgia, Jean was the beloved daughter of Louise Clarke and Frank Hughes. Throughout her life, she was known for her strength, resilience, intelligence, steadfast love for her family, and the joy she brought to everyone around her.

Jean attended A. R. Johnson Magnet School in Augusta and later pursued some college coursework. She dedicated nine years of service to T-Mobile, where she built lasting friendships and was respected for her hard work, kindness, and commitment to helping others. Her greatest accomplishment, however, was her family. She was a devoted mother whose love knew no limits. She poured her heart into raising her children, encouraging them, protecting them, and reminding them that family always came first. Becoming "Nana" brought an entirely new joy into her life, and her grand babies quickly became the light of her world. Jean was a woman of quiet faith. Even through life's greatest challenges, she continued to trust God, demonstrating remarkable courage, grace, and perseverance. Her strength inspired everyone who witnessed her journey.

On July 29, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family, Jean peacefully entered into eternal rest. Though our hearts are heavy, we find comfort knowing she is no longer suffering and is forever at peace in the presence of her Lord and Savior.

JEAN was preceded in death by her father, Frank Hughes, and her sister, Jackie Smith Cole.

She leaves to cherish her beautiful memory her loving mother, Louise Clarke; her devoted companion, Joey Morton; her beloved children, April & Marcus Collins, Devin Clarke, and Tylan Howard; her treasured grand babies, Jea'Niya "Nanas" Ludden, La'Desia "Nooney" Ludden, Tre'Vion "BOOM" Wilson, Khamila "Mila Boo" Collins, and Nova "NoNo" Clarke; her siblings, Miles Clarke, John "Bo" Hughes, Leola Smith, Brenda Andrews, and Philip Clarke; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends whose lives were forever touched by her love.

Though she has finished her earthly race, the love she shared, the lessons she taught, and the memories she created will continue to live on in each of us.
